On the Baja eve: tomorrow starts the long weekend of the off roads run (cars, bikes and quads) that will go on until Sunday afternoon with the arrival at Spilimbergo Piazza Garibaldi. Everything is ready at Pordenone Fair for receiving the competitors coming from all over Italy and Europe. Inside the Fair pavilions the cheerful atmosphere of the merry saraband on the international kermesse is already spreading around. Rai and Acisport agreed on a large video passages, starting from Friday, until next Sunday, and also during the following week. That demonstrates once again the importance of the race. Consequently there shall be a large display of means: 5 camera-cars, 3 operators along the track, one operator for shots from the helicopter, assemblers of the shots and a journalist particularly sent to take care of the editing part. NEWS ABOUT THE TRACK. It has been snowing also in March and the forecast for the next weekend is not good. Consequently the organizers will adopt “track B”, already authorized by the administration of the territory, reducing km on Tagliamento river bed. The selective sector entitled to Edi Orioli will be 66 km long, crossing Zoppola, San Martino al Tagliamento, San Giorgio della Richinvelda, Spilimbergo and Valvasone. Cars will run 3 passages on Saturday and 2 on Sunday in the opposite direction. Bikes and quads: 2 passages on Saturday and 3 on Sunday in the opposite direction. BAJA AND HAPPY HOUR. Friday afternoon: start of the race (4.30 p.m. in Spilimbergo) with the super special in Dignano on a track 6,5 km long. It will give the first classification and the starting order for the stage of Saturday. After the prologue the competitors will be guests of Cantina Rauscedo for the official welcome by organizers, authorities and sponsors, and will receive an “wine-gift” marked d.o.c. POSTAL CANCELLATION. Double occasion for philately fans on Saturday in Pordenone Fair: they can get the postal cancellation on the souvenir cards of Italian Baja and buy the stamps celebrating the century of Alfa Romeo with a special dedication to the new “Giulietta”. SURPRISE AT SAINT PETERSBURG. The final check of Russian Baja disqualified the Polish Kristof Holowczyc for technical irregularity on his vehicle. Consequently the winner was Boris Gadasin and their duel is ready to recommence at Italian Baja.
